Meet Zoe!

Zoe is an 8-year old beagle-sheltie mix who was surrendered to a shelter because her owner was moving.  Zoe is such a pleasant girl and very sweet!  She is a chunky monkey and could use a good walking partner.

Update from foster home:

Zoe is being fostered in a home with 2 other dogs and 3 cats. She gets along well with all of them, relating primarily to people. She has been friendly with neighborhood children, even toddlers, not jumping up on them. She was described as good with children at her previous home.

Zoe is completely house trained, but does not signal a need to go outside. She has not
been crated in her foster home. She has not gotten into any mischief when given the
run of the house. She is a calm dog...somewhat mellow...and not particularly active
around the house. She barks when there are strange noises right outside the house or
when someone comes to the door. Otherwise she has been quiet.

Zoe is fairly good on a leash though she does pull a bit. She is able to go on a brisk
walk for about an hour without tiring. She is overweight, so she is going on walks for a
minimum of an hour a day, sometimes two hours, with no problem. She is eating 1/4
can moist food and 1/4 cup dry split into three meals. Last February, Zoe had surgery
for bladder stones. The University of Minnesota Veterinary Urolith clinic recommends a
high quality dog food and a good probiotic, which seems to decrease the formation of
stones. In her most recent urinalysis (11/7), there were no crystals indicating further
stone formation.

Zoe is not very good yet on basic commands. She will “sit” for a treat, but not without an
incentive. She does “come” pretty well when called. She doesnʼt like to be too far away
from her people.

So far, Zoe has shed very little. She has thick, medium length fur, and does not need to
be brushed every day. She keeps herself clean, is not smelly, and is easy to be around.
She likes to play “tugging” games; she will also chase a ball, but wants you to take it
from her. She is learning to drop it. She would likely learn to play with a frisbee as well.
While she would be happy to spend much of the day on the couch, Zoe seems to like
exercise and will follow you around, and play if you will play with her.

Zoe is a warm, friendly, happy dog who has been loved, and who has lots of love to
give. She will happily sleep in your bed curled up next to you, or sleep next to the bed
so she feels close. She loves a belly rub. She would be happy as an only dog or in a
home with other relatively quiet dogs or cats. She is a great walking companion, or she
will sit with you while you read a book or watch TV. Just donʼt keep your snack food
within her grasp!
