"Hi I'm Rugby!  Not to brag right from the start, but I'm pretty great dog! My foster mom can't stop bragging about how cute/unique looking I am! What can I say, I'm a looker! I like to spend my days playing with my foster brother (4 yr. old 60lb male lab mix). We enjoy chasing each other in the backyard and playing tug of war with toys, although I usually lose that battle. When I play with my foster brother or by myself its pretty cute to watch because I still play, pounce and have fun as if I was only a few months old! I love when my foster mom gets on the floor and plays with me as well, especially when she gives me tummy-rubs, I can't get enough of those !  I do LOVE cuddling with my foster mom as much as I can.

So, if you can't find me playing in the backyard with my foster brother, I'm usually then taking a "dog nap" somewhere in the house, I love taking naps, who doesn't?! My foster mom is also very pleased with how well I walk on a leash because I don't chase after other dogs while on a walk and to be honest I'm not a very vocal dog either, unless I hear an unusual noise. The only thing that might get my attention while on a walk is someone riding by on their bicycle or rollerblades, they just look funny to me so I might try and pull on my leash to go investigate, but my foster mom is working with me on this. I also do well with strangers coming up to pet and greet me. I get a lot of people that want to pet me while out on walks, they seem to think I look like such a cute looking dog.  Have I mentioned already that I'm pretty great dog?!

I'm not aggressive when it comes to toys, food or resource guarding, so no worries with any of that stuff.  One thing you must know about me is when I'm in the backyard and my foster mom uses the hose to water her flowers I enjoy a little game of trying to catch the water wherever she sprays it!  My foster mom can't stop laughing when she sees me chase the water and jump feet in the air to try and lick the water as she watering her plants,  what can I say, I'm pretty funny I guess! And since we're talking about water, I also don't mind when I get a bath.

Now, you might be wondering what I do all day when my foster mom is at work? Well, I spend the day in my crate and when bed time rolls around I sleep on the floor next to my foster mom's bed and or in my crate as well.  I haven't had any accidents in my crate nor in the house, which my foster mom greatly appreciates!  I might whine a little once put in my crate but its only because I want to go with you, but trust me I stop whining after a little bit and put myself to bed until you come back. Overall at the end of the day I'm still wishing to have my forever home and meet my forever family hopefully one day soon. Arf arf, Rugby"

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
