BUT JUST LOOK AT HIM NOW!!!
ADOPTED!!!
Meet Judd!
Judd just joined our rescue group and is now being lovingly cared for in a foster home.
This poor boy has had a hard time in the last few weeks. He has a very sad story. The student of a wonderful teacher came to school one day and said her dog had a large wound on his back. The teacher asked what happened and the girl said that he might have been hit by a car or that possibly someone had stabbed him.
The teacher asked the girl and her mother to surrender Judd so that she could get him some help, but they declined. They were made very aware of the urgency to get this boy some much needed help.
The weather was bitter cold, and every day the teacher asked about Judd. She asked if the family was keeping him in the house and the girl said "No" because he digs in the garbage and he bleeds when he warms up! The girl was asked if he had shelter and they said he sleeps by the door and had no shelter. The girl was then asked if she had food for him to eat and she said no they didn't. So, the teacher brought her a bag of dog food and told her to put Judd inside so that he can get warm. Each day the teacher asked if he was getting better.
Finally on February 1, 2 weeks after his injury, he was surrendered to the teacher. When she picked Judd up, he was very cold and had a 12" oozing wound on his back and tail. He jumped right into the teacher's pickup and rode very quietly. He was taken to the vet immediately, where he was kept over night. The next day, the vet showed her what she found embedded in Judd's lower back.... 5 pieces of window glass. The largest piece being 2 inches by 3 inches. She said that was all she found but more may surface later. How this glass got there is beyond our imagination.
Judd was taken to a shelter and was so happy to have an igloo filled with straw, medicine to help him to recover, fresh water, and all the food he needs. He ate continually and started gaining weight. His ribs are no longer showing and he is in much better spirits. His wound is also healing nicely.
***UPDATE***
Judd is such a trooper. Despite the hardships he's endured, this gentle giant has a tail wag for you the minute he sees you! So loving, so trusting. So ready to make friends.
This boy has such an even keeled temperament. He gets along well with other dogs and will take notice of cats but could care less about them. Mellow and calm, nothing phases him- nothing riles him. I have yet to hear him bark!
Judd is just so thankful to be inside a warm home, with good food to eat and a soft bed to sleep on. He seems so grateful to be talked to in a gentle voice- to have his head and neck tenderly stroked. So happy just to feel the human kindness he has clearly gone so long without.
Judd has impeccable house manners. He is quiet, calm, doesn't bark, doesn't get into trouble,(despite earlier reports of him digging in the trash- it hasn't happened once at my house!), doesn't chew on anything, doesn't jump up on you, is house trained (has not had one accident!) and doesn't need to be entertained. He is in 7th heaven just to be in the same room with you- lying on his dog bed.
They don't call 'em SAINTS for nothing!! (he is a St Bernard/Boxer mix, remember)
Judd would do well in a home without a lot of commotion. He's so laid back that a calmer atmosphere seems like it would suit him best. He has been offerd toys and tennis balls but the poor guy doesn't seem to know what to do with them. He definitely seems like a big 'ol couch potato! A great big lover boy with the sweetest personality ever.
OK- if you love big dogs - especially calm, well behaved big dogs- and have a similar lifestyle- you have got to meet Judd!!! This dog will melt your heart on the most bitter cold of winter days!!!
