Description:
Meet Ryan!

Look at those sweet sad eyes.

Ryan has truly been through the most terrible year you can imagine. Originally at an animal shelter a year ago, he was pulled by a rescue and a foster stole him along with another dog. A few months later Ryan was located and was able to be reclaimed, but had severe kennel cough, was boarded while getting well, and was neutered, heartworm tested, fully vaccinated, and had dew claws removed.

Upon being released from the clinic, a new rescue group agreed to try to find him a home, but in short time was returned to the vet due to "hurt feet" where we learned he was injured while in the care of this new rescue group and had bleach burns from being walked through straight Clorox bleach at one home. He was treated and then sent to live with a different new foster, but this foster could never seem to make any adoption events and spoke of adopting him. This all changed when the foster's brother-in-law died and they gained custody of dogs belonging to him.

Ryan was returned immediately and the poor boy was boarded for a time again in a kennel before being sent to live with a rescuer that offered to help, but keeps dogs in pens with only dog houses. No tarps - just pens. The lady that has ownership wasn't fully aware of the situation she was getting him into, and it was only meant to be quite temporary, but has stretched into month after month.

Then we heard recently that during the flooding and rains this summer that this sweet boy was absolutely miserable and tried to drape himself across the top of his Igloo to avoid having to set foot in mud or rain water.

We cannot let anything else like this happen to Ryan. We are working on transporting him to MARS right now and he should arrive here soon. The story broke our hearts and we are going to make sure that he is taken care of properly and that a loving FOREVER home is found for him.

He so badly wants to bond with someone. We believe he is a Springer Spaniel Mix and was fully crate-trained, very well-behaved, and on the road to being housetrained when moved this last time to the pen situation.

Ryan has impeccable house manners. He doesn't jump on people and he is extremely friendly. He has had no accidents at all and he has surpassed all our expectations. Ryan will make a wonderful family companion and possibly a good hunting dog as well. The resident dog at his temporary home is not thrilled in the least that there is another dog in the house. We need to get Ryan into a foster home as soon as possible so that we can work on finding him a new forever home.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
