Description:

SWEET SENIOR CHI!

Poncho is a 12 year old TINY chi who came to MARS after his owner passed. He is a sweet, gentle, loving little guy that wants nothing more than a best friend(s) and sunshine -whether laying in a ray on the couch or outside in the yard!

He loves to follow his humans around, but gets nervous if he doesn't know where they are and will bark in distress - if he can see you or knows you are close by he does just fine! Poncho is a snuggle bug - especially at bedtime - he loves crawling under the covers and laying next to you so he feels safe and warm!

Due to his age, he does have arthritis in his spine causing some curvature and wobbly back legs but he shows NO signs of pain or distress and gets around really well - he uses dog steps to climb up/down on the couch but has trouble going up stairs with a long run.

He needs a patient home that understands he is working on potty training-he wears a belly band in the house just fine (he may never be fully trained). Poncho is also deaf but you would never know - he gets along just fine!

He does not like to be kenneled or gated so not good for shared walls unless he is left out when you are gone (which he is at foster). Due to his age and small size he would do better in a quiet home with no younger children but would be fine if grandkids/younger children came to visit.

He gets along excellent with dogs about his same size and demeanor but would be fine as an only pet. Poncho has such a loving heart and he deserves the very best forever home!

*Poncho will be on  life long maintenance medication to help alleviate the symptoms caused by his arthritis.

Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below.

Thank You!

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
