Meet Ruben!

Hi! My name is Ruben and I'm looking for a home of my own. My favorite thing is cuddling! I can usually be found right next to one of my humans, snoozing away. I live with several small dogs and I also really like to cuddle with them! I spend most of my day sleeping, I'm a chill guy.

I like to supervise when my humans are cooking and am always on the lookout for scraps - I'm still learning that I will always have enough to eat here. I came from a place with too many dogs and not enough food or care, so I'm still learning to trust my needs will be met reliably.

I have a hard time sharing with bigger dogs. There's a lab who's at my foster parents' often, and I growl at her when she's close to me. I've snapped at her when i think she's trying to take my food or other humans' attention. I've never done this with familiar small dogs though!

I'm better with women than with men, I bark at my foster dad when he talks to me. I'm making progress though with some food incentives!

I'm doing well in terms of house training. I'm about 90% there, I forget and have accidents occasionally, but when I'm given regular access to the backyard I do very well. I really like having a fenced yard to explore! I'll go out on my own when the door is open. I'm still too scared to go on walks - I just tremble - but my foster family thinks I could get used to them with time and support.

My personality is still emerging as I warm up to my family and to being a house pet. Come get to know me - I'm the sweetest little guy!

*Ruben did test heartworm positive prior to rescue and has now been through treatment and is officially heartworm negative! He's looking forward to living a long, happy and healthy life.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS. We do not transport to potential adopters.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.
