Meet Ethel!

Ethel is a tiny little beagle girl who was brought to a shelter and adopted shortly after, but turns out the son in the family was very allergic to dogs.    She is now looking for another home to call their own.

Ethel is such a sweet little girl and loves to cuddle.  She likes all 3 humans in her foster home equally.  She doesn’t really cling to one person.  She slept in the son’s room a couple of nights and a couple of nights in the parents' bed.  She’s so skinny and tiny, they have started calling her Minnie (short for skinny Minnie).

Her fosters have a puggle and a terrier/pug mix in the home with Ethel, and Ethel is good at getting them both to play with her.  She likes bones and stuffed animals but doesn’t play ball.  Ethel will growl at the resident dogs if they try to approach her when she’s laying down sleeping or trying to sleep.  But she is very gentle with them otherwise, and she doesn’t get aggressive with toys or food.

Her foster family has been calling Ethel,  “Minnie”, and she responds to that very well.  She is a very happy, sweet, cuddly little girl who likes belly rubs and likes to spend time cuddling on the couch with her people, but sometimes she likes to play with toys and get the other dogs in the house playing and running around.  She loves sitting on the top of the couch and looking out the window.

She doesn’t bark much but when she does, you can really hear her. For this reason it is best that Ethel's forever home does not have shared walls - and a big fenced in yard would be awesome for her.

She listens well to a firm “no” to her barking or bothering the other dogs when they are playing.  She loves to go outside when it is not too cold.  Her potty training is also coming along well now that she is getting used to the house and the routine.  She does okay in the kennel, but her foster mom has been leaving her out of the kennel more when she leaves the house and it doesn’t seem to be an issue.
The resident puggle is bell trained so the fosters are going to try training Ethel with the bell too.  She has rung it a couple of times but doesn’t yet know what it means.

She sleeps in bed with her foster humans and sleeps very sound all night and doesn’t take up much room because she’s so small.  Occasionally she gets out of bed in the middle of the night, and then the family lets her outside so she doesn't have an accident in the house..

Ethel doesn't seem to have a voracious appetite and just nibbles throughout the day.  She loves treats and is learning to sit for treats.  Ethel likes running around the yard with the other dogs and sniffing things (she has the beagle nose).   She is very polite and does not bark much at all.  She has been just a wonderful dog in her foster home. Whoever adopts her will be adopting a very loyal and sweet friend.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
