Description:

Hey! Thanks for looking at me!

My foster mom tells me that I am one of the prettiest Pekie boys she has ever seen. She makes me smile! My name is Caleb but she calls me Keiko 'cause she says that means "adored one" and she adores me. Cool name huh?

I gotta tell ya, this house life is a darn cool thing! I used to live in a little wire box. It was cold, noisy and really smelly! Now I'm warm, my belly's full and I get to play with toys! Woo hoo!

I love the kids I live with and I really love the other dogs who play with me!! Foster mom laughs when I play because I make funny snorting noises. I can't help it! They just come out when I am happy.

There are a couple of other furry things living here too but I am scared of them. They hiss at me.

Sometimes I sleep in my crate and sometimes the big kid lets me nestle in with her at night. I always keep my crate tidy because I never want to go back to that smelly puppy mill place. I leave my smellies outside now.

Looking for a pretty boy who bounces when he's happy?

If you've got tasty food and a cushy dog bed then let's talk!

Ciao!

Keiko (aka Caleb)

Caleb came to us from a rural puppy mill. He never lived a day of his life as a normal pet in a home, with the love and attention a pet deserves until he came into rescue. Isn't that sad? He likely spent 24 hours a day in a crate, where he had to eat, sleep and potty. It is possible he had never even been petted in his life. Thank goodness he has been rescued from that life!

MARS has partnered up with a great facility, that used to be an impound facility and is now a rescue. Many puppy mill breeders bring their unwanted dogs to this facility. This rescue ensures every dog that leaves there is spayed or neutered and fully vetted. In addition, they spend time with each of the dogs to begin their socialization, and to get them used to human interaction. This extra care and attention gives these dogs a great jump start to becoming a beloved family pet.

Find out how rewarding it can be to teach this poor boy how to love and be loved.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
